Dear Letter Lovers,

Last Friday I was invited by Pondera to the official preview of the new cosmetics line created by Calvin Klein.

Based on the pillars of the Calvin Klein philosophy, CK ONE COLOUR focuses on Simplicity | Authenticity | Individuality. “It’s about being authentic, confident and cool.” The CK ONE COLOUR collection is about simplifying the make-up process: it shouldn’t be difficult,  complicated or intimidating.

“CK ONE is not about transformation or dramatization.” It’s about looking real, defining yourself and adding intensity.

The Brand

The cosmetics collection is divided into three distinct beauty dimensions:

1. Look Real | 2. Define Yourself | 3. Add Intensity

Brilliant idea. Why? Because by dividing products into three groups makes it so much easier for consumers to know what they’re shopping for and which product needs to be applied when. Look Real is the base, Define Yourself the definers and Add Intensity focuses on fun and colorful extras. In my view, Calvin Klein has launched a beauty collection that goes straight to the point and cuts out of all the crap, a sort of “Make-up for Dummies”.

1. Look Real: Your Beauty is Authentic. Keep it Real

This first dimension is made up of concealing liquids / fond teints, mousse concealers and pressed powders. They’re light, clean, fresh and the most important part and foundation of a well made-up face. According to Carla, the make-up artist who made me up, the CK ONE COLOR foundations have high quantities of silicone to ensure that their effect is long-lasting.

2. Define Yourself: Know Who You Are.

This second dimension focuses on definition. Mascaras, bronzers, eye-liners, brow pencils, skin illuminators and eyeshadow bases serve as a way of defining and perfecting one’s personal features, from the line of one’s mouth to the angle of one’s cheek bones.

The product that stood out for me and that is now the apple of my eye was the eye-liner marker.

Some of you may be asking, what’s that? It’s the “pencil” that creates the Amy Whinehouse black line drawn directly above one’s lashes. CK ONE’s eyeliner is a marker with a felt-like tip , making it much easier to apply with an end-result of exact precision.

I’m in love.

But the mascara was what really shook the room.

CK ONE created a one of a kind swiveling mascara. The bottom part of the mascara rotates allowing one to make the brush longer, for longer lashes, or shorter & tighter, for more volumonous lashes. Incredible.

Add Intensity : Boom!

“Express who you are with strong colours, lips that speak for themselves, sparkling eyes, rock star nails.” CK Press Release

Add intensity speaks for itself. It’s about intensifying your look, your style, your statement. The product range includes lipgloss, lipsticks, shine nail color and powder eye shadow. Each and every item goes pop. One would never imagine that hidden within those clean and simple black and white compacts lay shades with that kind of power.

The Lipsticks : My “Define Yourself”

It’s no secret that red lipstick has been in fashion for a while now. And as many of you know, I’m absolutely obsessed with it. I rarely leave the house with it (thanks Matilde…) Day or night. And it’s still relatively shocking in Lisbon to adorn a tone of such indiscretion during the day but it’s my “define yourself” beauty item. Therefore I asked Carina, one of the make-up artists, if she could drench me in Ck One Colors current supply.

The Packaging: The CK Pill

Minimalist, sensationalist, avant-garde, modern and iconic of the CK brand. Each item is essentially reminiscent of a giant pill. The black and white colors create impact and contrasts and revert us to this feeling of “user-friendly” simple make-up. It may be simple, but nevertheless it makes one hell of a statement and will not go unnoticed.

Final Thoughts

Calvin Klein has created a truly unique cosmetic collection that makes make-up user-friendly and simple for all women.

It’s the kind of collection I would purchase for a teenage girl who’s just learning to about the importance of cosmetics. Each stage is excellently explained and outlined, taking one through the various phases of cosmetic application. As I stated previously: it’s like make-up for dummies, but with a variety that allows women to define and differentiate themselves.

A highly user-friendly collection whose overall concept, traits, innovations and design are reminiscent of Apple Mackintosh.

Available exclusively at El Corte Ingles Lisbon 23rd of April 2012

P.S : The collection has so-far only be launched  Portugal, Australia and Spain. Nice.

Special thanks to Pondera | Maria Fernandes | Francisco Steinwall.

Lots of Love from Lisbon,
